Bringing Lunar to Life
Creating Lunar the Boobook Owl for FirstBank was a unique challenge that required attention to the smallest details. Our goal was to make this owl look as lifelike as possible – capturing the subtle mannerisms and personality of a real boobook owl. To achieve this, we not only focused on realistic movement but also added an intricate bone structure to the face, allowing Lunar’s eyes, beak, and head to move naturally.
Feathers that Make a Difference
One of the most critical parts of Lunar’s creation was the feathers. An owl’s feathers are far from simple – each feather type plays a vital role in how the owl moves and interacts with its environment. We used a combination of advanced animation techniques to recreate the dozens of feather types that make up Lunar’s realistic appearance. We also developed a unique system to ensure that the feathers didn’t collide or overlap in unnatural ways.

Perfecting Lunars Movements
To bring Lunar to life, we made sure every aspect of its anatomy was modelled accurately. The wings were rigged with bones for both open and closed positions, and the intricate movements were mapped to ensure realistic flapping and gliding. With a mix of animation and physics, we ensured Lunar’s flight looked as fluid as it would in the wild.

Through meticulous work and attention to detail, Lunar became a stunning representation of nature’s elegance. We were thrilled to collaborate with The20 and FirstBank on this project, and we hope Lunar inspires viewers to appreciate the beauty of the natural world in the same way we do.
