Water Wheelers

A desktop and mobile game where players collect pipes, harvest water, build facilities, and hire staff—offering a hands-on look at what it really takes to keep a community’s water services running.

A Clicker Game with a Cause

In collaboration with TasWater, we developed Water Wheelers – a lighthearted, strategic clicker-style game inspired by titles like Cookie Clicker, reimagined to reflect the vital services TasWater provides. The goal? Keep your community healthy, happy, and hydrated by balancing infrastructure, people, and priorities.

Build, Balance, and Progress

Players take control of a growing island, building water infrastructure, hiring staff, and responding to a range of evolving challenges. The game revolves around four key resources:

  • Services – representing the water infrastructure you create and maintain
  • Innovation – used to unlock new features and upgrade resources via a branching tech tree
  • Coins – your currency for purchasing and upgrades
  • Social – measuring community support and engagement

Each level introduces new mechanics and systems, encouraging players to think strategically and keep the island’s needs in harmony. The final score reflects how well the player has balanced all aspects of island life.

Soft, Friendly Visuals

We embraced a warm and approachable design style – soft shapes, vibrant colours, and playful animations – all crafted to make the game welcoming and visually clear. This helped distill complex ideas into intuitive, enjoyable gameplay.

Dynamic Levels and Events

Gameplay is broken into distinct levels, with each level featuring escalating complexity and occasional surprise events. These moments require the player to adapt quickly, reinforcing the importance of flexibility in water service management.

Fun Meets Purpose

Water Wheelers doesn’t just entertain – it educates. It’s a fun, gamified experience designed to raise awareness about the essential work TasWater does and the broader responsibilities that come with managing public utilities.
